I have a curiosity question. I am currently running an K7S5A MB with an Athlon 2400+ and a GEForce 4MX 440 (if I remember correctly) on kernel 2.4.18-4GB (RPM k_deflt-2.4.18-58) and NVdriver Kernel Module 1.0-3123. I'm not having any troubles, but was wondering how much performance improvement I might expect if I were to install the 2.4.20-100 K_athlon and nvidia 4496. With all the problems people have been reporting, is it worth the effort?
No. If 1.0-3123 works fine for you stick with it. Then again, if you are desperate to squeeze some more fps out of quake3, then you might give it a try. 2.4.20 might give you some preformance benefit over 2.4.18 (in general, not fps wise) and 4496 is slightly fatser than 3123. But if it ain't broken, don't fix it. Then again, if you have the 2.4.18 kernel rpms and you have the 3123 rpms/tgzs it's a quick test to see if it works. Installing 2.4.20 takes about 5 minutes (mainly depending on your download speed) and installing 4496 is rather quick too. (provided you fllow the instructions ;) ) Kind regards, -- Gerhard den Hollander Phone :+31-10.280.1515 ICT manager Direct:+31-10.280.1539 Jason Geosystems BV Fax :+31-10.280.1511 gdenhollander@Fugro-Jason.com POBox 1573 visit us at http://www.Fugro-Jason.com 3000 BN Rotterdam JASON.......#1 in Reservoir Characterization The Netherlands This e-mail and any attachment is/are intended solely for the named addressee(s) and may contain information that is confidential and privileged.
