Coming in late to this thread but I once had a similar problem with a
particular ISP. All others worked fine.
The problem was solved by choosing a particular set of options for pppd.
(I call pppd directly to make a connection)
Not sure I could even dig up the changes needed (I haven't used that ISP
in at least 4 yrs). Can you try to connect to another ISP for
comparison?
