That is precisely the point. Your query is totally unrelated to the thread you have hijacked in order to ask it.
Thread hijacking is: Beginning a new message & subject by replying to an existing message to obtain the list address rather than taking the time and effort to type the list address manually [my definition].
If you would remove the 'References:' and 'In-Reply-To:' headers from your new message, you would effectively break the thread and accomplish an acceptable result with a new thread and everything would be hunky-dorey.
