'nohup' ??? AKA [SLE] Works in Windoze, NOT in SuSE!?!?!?!?!?!?

In reading about debugging, I accidently came upon the 'nohup' invocation,
which makes a command immune to hangups.
Anyone have any suggestions about running 'nohup'??? Thoughts about running
it with pppd??? Can I still manually disconnect without hassle???
