The main reason (for us at least) is that you can address more then
2,3,3.5G RAM in a single application.

Mail server, I don;'t think so.
Dqatabase server, yup, if the database is so big it needs more then 3.5G to
fit completely into memory.

(there's much more to it though then just what I wrote above )
