Guys/Gals,
I'm trying to get an Alcatel speedtouch 330 DSL modem working on a new 8.2 installation. SuSE support say they can't help.
I'm running an Alcatel Speedtouch 300 without trouble with SuSE's kernel. Have a look at: http://linux-usb.sourceforge.net/SpeedTouch/index.html The 1.6 version of the kernel driver supports the 330 (it's now up to 1.7) and is now officially in the kernel as of 2.4.22. SuSE have included a driver in their kernels for ages. For SuSE 8.2 I followed the instructions at: http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/configSpeedTouch.html which worked for my Speedtouch 300. However the hotplug lines may be different for the 330. And the official kernel model has the name 'speedtch', not 'speedtouch' as in the SuSE instructions. The newer Mantel kernel uses 'speedtch', but if I remember correctly the default SuSE kernel for 8.2 uses 'speedtouch'. SuSE's kernel and PPP has all the PPPoA, ATM, Hotplug and USB stuff needed to use the Speedtouch modems. Ignore anything that says recompile any of these. SuSE have already patched their kernel, so you don't have to. ;-) But you do need to get the firmware and firmware loader, both available from the links at: http://linux-usb.sourceforge.net/SpeedTouch/download/index.html Check out the Docs link on this site too, but jump to step 7 about creating the firmware loader, and check out the Appendix if you have problems. Otherwise, just follow the SuSE instructions. Don't get the kernel module driver confused with the userspace one, though. Getting the instructions mixed up can only lead to disaster! Hope this helps.
