Hi I am parsing both SuSE-e-linux and nvidia list for about a week, about a problem concerning nvidia driver without success. I did follow the SuSE Howto (meaning compile the nvidia_kernel from source out of the xxx...pk2.run file together with installing SuSE's corresponding GLX rpm). I did reboot, and I did launch Sax2. After starting X, I obtain a black Screen and the system Hang (I have to Hard reboot). I did all the installation process at init 3 runlevel. After playing around with 4496 or 4363 drivers, editing /etc/X11/XFree86Config file the best I had (once) was a beautiful nvidia logo (I was so happy...for about 20 seconds !) and the system hang. The only answer I could obtain about this problem was to go back to the original SuSE 8.1 kernel !!! OK but what about security ? I had also the Vmware problem, which had been fixed using the patch available on the Vmware site (for whom could be concern, browse the list archive, the solution was posted few weeks ago). My system is a P IV 2.8 Ghz with Xfree 4.2 (original SuSE 8.1), Nvidia GeForce4 MX 440 (ID: 0x181) from Asustek, Motherboard : P4 Titan (GA-8SIMLH) with a SIS 651 chipset and a Nec 17'' TFT monitor (Nec LCD1701). Is anyone have a clue ? I am now running nv driver. Thank you for help.
