OGG under consideration; both performance and portability stories welcome...
I personal find Ogg Vorbis sound better and more transparent than mp3 at around the same bitrate (for example, lame --preset standard and oggenc -q6). The vorbis file size is also slightly smaller and much faster to encode. I only use mp3 on my portable CD player. If you decide to use oggvorbis at -q6, I suggest you use oggencgt3b1. This version is tuned for high bitrates. For low bitrate files (< q5), use the regular oggenc. Garf's high bitrate tuning will be included in the upcoming 1.01 maintainiance release. After that, there will be massive low bitrate tuning. Charles -- "If you want to travel around the world and be invited to speak at a lot of different places, just write a Unix operating system."
