attempt to access beyond end of device

      Just got thousands of these within 2 seconds in /var/log/messages:

Aug 24 10:35:37 sbs2 kernel: Directory sread (sector 0x20) failed
Aug 24 10:35:37 sbs2 kernel: attempt to access beyond end of device
Aug 24 10:35:37 sbs2 kernel: 02:00: rw=0, want=16, limit=4
Aug 24 10:35:37 sbs2 kernel: Directory sread (sector 0x20) failed
Aug 24 10:39:06 sbs2 squid[11799]: Preparing for shutdown after 65680 requests

Squid shuts down and that's the end of the internet session.

Any ideas anyone?
