Yast online update installed the k_athlon kernel upgrade and now my vmware workstation won't run.
That happened to me. I got 2 suggestions from the list after I tried the latest build #5289 from vmware.com 1. These 2 get the running kernel and the kernel source tree in sync: cp /boot/vmlinuz.version.h /usr/src/linux/include/linux/version.h cp /boot/vmlinuz.autoconf.h /usr/src/linux/include/linux/autoconf.h 2. If you got 2.4.21-???, the vmmon and vmnet modules that do compile won't work. Compile with vmware-config.pl like normal. Then download per these instructions:
From BR Jim Hamilton:
"With the help of some folks on the vmware newsgroups you will need a modified vmmon module to compile. These can be found here: ftp://platan.vc.cvut.cz/pub/vmware and pick vmware-any-any-update38 or later. I have used this new code and the vmware now buzzes along nicely once again. SuSE back ported epoll patches from 2.5.x to 2.4.x, and while this caused only warning, really bad things happened. The result in vmmon is memory corruptions." The unzip folder, named patch, contains a script "runme.pl". Run as root or su, because it replaces vmmon & vmnet modules in a root protected folder somewhere. Good Luck.
