No, it's not particularly difficult, but it's not a 5-minute operation either. I will try to put together a little "how-to" in the next few days or so and post it here. If you have ever built an rpm from a src.rpm before, that's half the battle. There's an article in the SuSE support database: http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/ke_source-rpm.html Please bear in mind that when I did this before it was on a previous version (I think it was 7.3). I am assuming that the process is still the same. I have not tried it on my machine recently (today someone at work asked me how to do this, so that's why I was trying to find out). Later, Mike ----------------------------------------------------- Cleary_Mike@emc.com ----------------------------------------------------- Yesterday it worked. Today it is not working. Windows is like that. -----Original Message----- From: Stefan Parvu [mailto:sp@sunguru.com] Sent: Thursday, August 21, 2003 3:28 PM To: Cleary_Mike@emc.com Subject: Re: [SLE] Changing login prompt: SOLVED On Thursday 21 August 2003 22:25, Cleary_Mike@emc.com wrote: Hi Mike, I would be interested too in this info. Thanks, but /etc/issue and /etc/issue.net just have the SuSE welcome message. What I meant was changing the login prompt from "<hostname> login: " to just "login: " (or to whatever else you might want).
I checked in one of my mail archives and found out what needs to be done. It involves editing some source files, then building the rpms and installing them. From the shadow package you need to modify login.c, and from the sysvinit package you need to modify mingetty.c.
I won't get into details now, but if anyone is interested I can send the info from the old emails I found.
Thanks,
