My exact command for compiling the kernel are as follows... make clean make mrproper make xconfig (tried using menuconfig as well, no change) make dep make bzImage make modules make modules_install
Don't forget to run mk_initrd as this adds the reiserfs module so that the root filesystem can be mounted on boot. I've made that mistake a lot. # mk_initrd using "/dev/hda9" as root device (mounted on "/" as "reiserfs") creating initrd "/boot/initrd" for kernel "/boot/vmlinuz" (version 2.4.19-4GB) - insmod reiserfs (kernel/fs/reiserfs/reiserfs.o) - splash picture (1024x768) creating initrd "/boot/initrd.shipped" for kernel "/boot/vmlinuz.shipped" (version 2.4.19-4GB) - insmod reiserfs (kernel/fs/reiserfs/reiserfs.o) - splash picture (1024x768) If your using lilo bootmanager run lilo as well, if your using the SuSE default Grub, then everything should "hopefully" work on next reboot.
