Dear all (and Ralph),
I'm trying to install a wireless card Netgear MA521
under SuSE 8.2/XD2. I've been following the
instructions from an earlier thread by Ralph, but
doesn't work. So here is the problem:
1. the card does work (installed it successfully under
windows).
2. the configuration we have is the following: DSL
modem goes into a wireless router Netgear MB814 and
we want several laptops to connect to it.
3. first I tried YaST - it recognizes "Netgear
Ethernet controller" and tries to set it up as
eth-pcmcia. I don't know of any special settings in
the wireless part (eg ESSID etc) so I left that
blank). I close the configuration tool and exit but no
use (tried to reboot as well). It's not doing
anything. Ifconfig doesn't recognize it either.
4. So I tried Ralph's suggestions
a) cardctl ident doesn't recognize anything specific
but says for slot 1
>>>
Socket 1:
no product info available
manfid: 0x0000, 0x024c
function: 6 (network)
>>>
b) so I change in /etc/pcmcia config and wland-ng.conf
by adding
card "Netgear Ethernet controller"
manfid: 0x0000, 0x024c
bind orinoco_cs
c) to /etc/modules.conf I added
alias eth1 orinoco_cs
d) at this point Ralph's instructions were to return
to Yast and set it up as eth1 and select orinoco
rather than pcmcia.
unfortunately - yast won't let me do any of this and
it simply goes on setting it up as pcmcia and we're
back to 1 where it doesn't work.
at this point I am rather stuck - so any suggestions
would be very very welcome. especially success stories
on how to get it to work would be great!!
thanks a lot, james.
