Hi Thomas, Thanks a lot for your trouble explaining all that to me. I did just as you said, but now when running rdesktop I het the following error: Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server Xlib: No protocol specified ERROR: Failed to open display: :0.0 any idea why that is happening? Thanks,
Hi Filepe,
I use rdesktop all the time, and I have found that it is consistently better than Microsoft's own terminal services client; it wil often connect when terminal services client sometimes denies me a connection.
As noted, the package ('rdesktop' - not 'Rdesktop') is on your SuSE media. However, I would not recommend you using that package because - at least on some SuSE 8.2 installations - it will fail (a long story, but essentially it was compiled with too high an optimization flag).
1. Rather, you should download the source files from:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/rdesktop/rdesktop-1.2.0.tar.gz
2. Un-tar the package (if working in KDE, simply right-click on the file and select "Extract here;" if working from a command line, unzip the file [gunzip rdesktop-1.2.0.tar.gz] and then un-tar [tar xpf rdesktop-1.2.0.tar]).
3. In the un-tarred folder, you'll find a file called "configure." Open the file using the editor of your choice, and find the line that says:
cflags="$cflags -Wall -O2"
You will need to edit the line by removing the '2'; once you've done so and the line reads:
cflags="$cflags -Wall -O"
you are ready to run configure/make/make install to create and install rdesktop. To do so, from the command line, run:
./configure make
and then as root, run:
make install
4. That should have created and installed rdesktop. After that, you simply run (either from the command line or the KDE Run window [accessible by pressing Alt+F2] the following:
rdesktop xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of the server to which you wish to connect.
Hope this helps. Have a great day, and peace be with you.
