I am not sure how the current version of pcAnywhere works, but if you really need only one X session you really need to either stay logged in a + use desktop sharing, or shut down kdm and use vnserver. It might not be as bad as you think unless your computer is already really stressed. I used vncserver on 32MB P150 with reasonable usefulness even though my wife had a simultaneous X session on the console. To save (a lot) of resources don't use KDE but a lightweight window manager like fvwm2 or windowmaker. And don't try to run 2 copies of Netscape at once :-( Alternatively why not just run X on the terminal and ssh in to your host? You can run X applications on your terminal without all the extra resources of another X session starting on the host. Have fun!
