Hello, This is the second attempt to post my question. Sorry about that. I try to connect to a PDA over USB and it just does not work. I am using Suse 8.2 with a 2.4.21 Kernel. What I did so far: I changed the necessary settings in /etc/sysconfig/hotplug. I put CDCEther and acm on the blacklist in /etc/hotplug/blacklist. I created a USB network device with Yast which appears as eth-usb. There is a ifcfg-eth-usb in /etc/sysconfig/network. In /etc/hotplug/usb.handmap, I include the following passage so that hotplug knows about which driver belongs to a USB gadged that comes in with 04dd/9031: # Sharp Zaurus usbnet 0x0003 0x04dd 0x9031 0x0000 0x0000 0x02 0x00 0x00 0x02 0x06 0x00 0x00000000 Finally, I tried to insert into /etc/modules.conf alias eth-usb usbnet ...but I do not think that this helped. Now what happens is this: The hotplug service realizes that there is a new gadget attached. usbnet is loaded. Hotplug tries to fuss around with acm but seems to realize that it is blacklisted. However, I do not get a usb network device! At least, this is my interpretation of the following /var/log/messages section: Aug 9 18:49:04 melissandra kernel: hub.c: new USB device 00:04.2-2, assigned address 9 Aug 9 18:49:04 melissandra kernel: usb.c: USB device 9 (vend/prod 0x4dd/0x9031) is not claimed by any active driver. In theory, when I plug the PDA into the USB I should receive a usb0 network device. Any help is welcome :-) tia, einar
