Have my SuSe 8.2 setup right from the cd. I was running KDE as my standard desktop and most things were working. I did some work on my scanner because 8.2 does not work with the HP 3400c scanner although it is recognised. Don't know what I have done but if I start KDE now it gives the KDE image and starts. But after reaching the initializing of peripherals the machine hangs and I have only one posibility to get out of this situation by a hard or warm boot. If I start in Icewm I find that I have no problems at all so I asume it has something to do with KDE. I have looked into the log files but being overwelmed at the information trown at me I have no idea why KDE does not want to work. Is there also a special KDE log file? ================
Constant, Try renaming your .kde directory, first to see if some settings or program has gone silly. You will lose your settings for everything, but at least you can test to see if something there is causing you this problem. Notice that it is a hidden file with the (period)kde! If that doesn't work, you may need to delete the contents of your /tmp directory as there could be something there gone screwy.
