Would someone please remind me which control file, and where it resides, that needs to be massaged to stop the hardware scan on boot.

I remember someone asking on how to stop the hwscan on boot, because it was slowing down the boot and also because there is no need for it 'cause no hardware changes occur on his system, and was given the control file to alter. I thought I saved that message but I hadn't.

- I think you are referring to the following post:

(I had saved this one -- whereas with a little googling I found one from October, 2002, which gave essentially the "insserv" method Andreas Winkelmann outlined.)
I didn't check Togan's FAQ, but I wouldn't be surprized it is there too.
I would be slow to remove the scripts -- but removing it via run level editor still allows you to do a hardware scan via command line: "["root"]# yast2 --hwscan" it you later find it necessary.
Friendly greetings,
Thank you for the above. I have (temporarily) given up on the whole thing because I will be installing a new motherboard at the end of this week so the hwscan will be needed. But you said "googling" to find another message on the topic. I checked this mailgroup on SuSE's site but didn't think it allowed doing a search within the bodies of messages but what you are suggesting is that this mailgroup is also to be found on Google? Well, that's most interesting - and most useful - to know. Thanks. -- Understanding only begins with the act of perception.
