./configure --prefix=/usr --manpath=/usr/share/man --enable-gui make make install (or do checkinstall, so you'll have a clean rpm install)
Yes, and if you want to enable rtp, rtcp streams you will need to download the live.com library: http://live.sourceforge.net/ unpack it somewhere like /usr/local/lib and compile it in place (yes, this package is weird). and configure mplayer with the: --enable-live switch also.
