My experience of Ximian's desktop offering is that when it works on
SuSE, it's more by luck than design, they focus on RH & Debian, SuSE
often seems like an after thought.

Plus, no Dread Carpet to screw up your system (not saying it will, just
that I've been burnt in the past)
