For your understanding: Windows box assigning a spontaneously invented
lease means that it didn't get an address from any DHCP server.

For your understanding: you do not share a connection "via DHCP" -- DHCP
only distribute configuration stuff (mainly basic stuff like IP address,
netmask and gateway address) to a client machine, so the data can be
maintained centrally.

The hub doesn't need to know what you are sending over it, because it
operates at a much lower level (physical layer of the network).

First off: watch /var/log/messages on the server for anything that dhcpd
logs, while restarting it, and while playing with winipcfg (or ipconfig)
on the windows box, and try to understand it.
