Hi All I am trying to set-up a remote modem dialin to a SuSE 8.2 system so selected remote users can access the Internet through the Linux box. Now as usual I am having problems in getting this functioning. First I uncommeted the mgetty line in the inittab file & reloaded it, so now the modem answers. Now I want to configure the dialin. By putting my username & password in Kinternet on my remote system I get the following when I try to login. pppd: CONNECT 57600 pppd: --> Carrier detected. Waiting for prompt. pppd: Welcome to SuSE Linux 8.2 (i586) - Kernel pppd: (l). pppd: xena!login: pppd: Welcome to SuSE Linux 8.2 (i586) - Kernel pppd: (l). pppd: xena!login: pppd: --> Looks like a login prompt. pppd: --> Sending: jasmine pppd: jasmine pppd: Password: pppd: --> Looks like a password prompt. pppd: --> Sending: (password) pppd: You have new mail in /var/mail/jasmine. pppd: Last login: Mon Jun 16 11:10:59 from xxxxxxxxxxxx.com.au pppd: Have a lot of fun... pppd: jasmine@xena:~> pppd: --> Hmm... a prompt. Sending "ppp". pppd: ppp pppd: -bash: ppp: command not found pppd: jasmine@xena:~> pppd: --> Hmm... a prompt. Sending "ppp". pppd: ppp pppd: -bash: ppp: command not found pppd: jasmine@xena:~> pppd: --> Hmm... a prompt. Sending "ppp". pppd: ppp pppd: -bash: ppp: command not found pppd: jasmine@xena:~> pppd: --> Don't know what to do! Starting pppd and hoping for the best. pppd: Serial connection established. pppd: Using interface ppp0 pppd: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyS1 pppd: Serial line is looped back. After I get this far, the connection will not get any further & just drop out. What I want is for remote users to login like they do with an ISP. e.g. They just put their username : password in & the remote system configures their IP address, remote ip, dns & default route, in otherwords, does it all dynamicly. Can this be achived with mgetty & pppd or is it better to use a radius server? If so, what radius server is suitable & not a headache to set-up?
