I had to enable acpid in order to get my battery monitor working. To start acpid you can run 'rcacpid' as root. If you want it to be persistent you need to add it to init levels 2, 3 and 5 with chkconfig. I think you need to use the following commands: /sbin/chkconfig --add acpid /sbin/chkconfig -s acpid 235 For some reason apm is not built into the kernel, so I cannot start apm.
