When I first installed Kile, I was trying to use pdfLatex to produce portable PDF files, and to use GhostScript to view them, mostly since these were the default settings tied to the function keys. I could not get either to work, but I downloaded the Linux PDF Viewer from Adobe, and set up the "Quick Build" on the "F1" key to go through the steps of Latex -> dvips -> ps2pdf -> launch Adobe, and everything has been working great for me ever since. I'm using Kile to manage and write "Z" specifications and getting excellent results. Now I wish I could find a good package for describing and adding "Petri Net" specification diagrams to my LaTeX documents. Under the tools menu in Kile you will find other options though depending on what you have installed like pdflatex which will create a .pdf file or a postscript option which is there as well. you can print a dvi file, obviously a .pdf file or a .ps script file and you won't see the latex source. there are also utilities like "dvips" which generate postscript files out of .dvi files and ps2pdf which well, it should be obvious what that does. wayne
