I'm not much of a tinkerer when it comes to recompiling the OS, but I've got alot left to learn. Windows 2000 Pro sees the modem fine, so I know the device is working fine.
I use the modem lots, so this is a major deal for me to get thru before I can begin a stepped migration to Linux. The next major thing for me is to find out how to use VMWare for my Windows apps that the company is forcing down my throat.

If the modem is a winmodem, there might still be hope according to the chipset used. I believe you can go here to get more info: http://www.linmodems.org/ There might be a driver or at least info that will help you in getting it working. If memory serves me, I believe there are some drivers included with 8.2 on the discs.
