Hey Group:
I am have nothing but problems/headaches with 8.2.
I use fvwm2 (or command line) because KDE is a massively slow loading memory hog. But I decided to give it a try tonight. Mistake! First time for KDE 3.1. It started up and about 2 minutes later it showed the small box as it configured itself (3 more minutes). The problems started when it (like Microsoft) started finding devices which were already configured and working. My /etc/X11/XF86config file now is screwed up. My used to work TV/Radio now will not work any longer. Now as a user (God forbid you should be in root) "smix" fails (likely permissions). It even asked if I would like to configure a IDE HD (which has Linux software on it which SuSE already settup).
Also, if I download almost any program the compiler seems to complain and then crashes. So I can't even fix xawtv which seems to default to Pal mode. Mind you xawtv used to work also.
I think it might be useful if you sent in some hardware details. KDE 3.1.x is running fine here. Have you run memtest86 over your RAM recently? Best Fergus
