I suggest google on hdparm - there are some tips around the web on using
hdparm to detect your CD-ROMs preferred DMA options. Then type
these in as kernel options when installing.
Of course it will do you no harm (except slow you down) to use no dma
at all for the install (sorry I can't remember the boot option syntax
for dma)
(btw don't forget to try this without ACPI)
