Mailman may meet his needs, but it doesn't compare to LISTSERV in features (I admin lists with both).
But I believe mailman is standard with Suse. It also comes with majordomo, but majordomo is a maintenance headache compared to mailman.
Unless you are running a worldwide list, with thousands of subscribers and many many lists I suspect mailman is perfect.
Have you run lists with LISTSERV? I've run lists with all three. Mailman is simple to use and free, but it doesn't compare to LISTSERV even for a single list with a few hundred subscribers. For one thing, LISTSERV allows email commands and it's much faster to make major changes with than Mailman. There is simply no comparison between the power of LISTSERV and Mailman. Of course the power comes at a price; for example, the list owner manual for LISTSERV 1.8D is a 632 KB text file (also available in HTML & PDF). LIS, perhaps Mailman will meet his needs, but if I had a "huge list" to maintain I would not -- based on years of running lists -- use Mailman unless LISTSERV service was not in the budget. -rex
