I have tried to upgrade from kde 3.0.5 to 3.1 twice without success. I have gone to the trouble of listing all the packages installed on my machine and then comparing them to the packages downloaded from the Suse ftp server. I used the --test function, and figured out what to run first, but everytime there is one that slips through the cracks and I run into rpm dependencies hell, in other words re-install. I run 8.1, and I am wondering if anyone can help me with the exact sequence of events that must take place.
I have set up a second system on my hard drive to test this before using it on the real thing, so that I don't screw up my main system.
Any help would be appreciated.
I don't know whether it'll be enough to help you, but remember a very nice command: "rpm -Fvh *.rpm" Using -F instead of -U will make RPM look into its database and automatically select only the package that can be upgraded, ignored those that are not installed or already upgraded. This way you save hours of sorting and comparing packages.
