Hey Group: A friend and I have tracked a problem with grub /boot/message in 8.2. The problem is that this image is the very first thing you see at bootup. It has "F2" as a optional "Silent", "Verbose" and "Native" functions. Basically the default is set and can not be permentaly changed. We have edited /boot/grub/menu.lst to reflect a change in "splash=" with every reasonable "0", "silent", "verbose" or "native" and rebooted. The change doesn't take effect. Which would set the default bootup image. The user wishes to have the default changed so that the SuSE8.2 background and the inserted xterm type screen would be seen with all of the normal boot/load data shown. As I remember "native" mode. title linux kernel (hd0,0)/vmlinuz root=/dev/hda2 vga=0x31a pcibus=66 hdd=ide-scsi hddlun=0 splash=0 showopts Problem is it seems that grub doesn't pass "splash=native" if followed by "showopts". However, some of the line "ide-scsi" and "vga=" seem to be passed on. You can however "F2" select it and it will then work. Is this problem coming from /boot/message or grub. Who/what/when or where produced /boot/message? Grub and/or SuSE? "khexedit" (nice hex editor) show that the "F2" input happens in /boot/message. Where am I missing this?
