-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I want to upgrade MySQL from 3.23 released in SuSE 8.2 to the current release. As I tend to complicte tasks that should be simple, I thought I'd bounce it off the gurus here to see what I'd be doing wrong (or the hard way). SuSE chose to put the MySQL binaries in /usr/bin (and mix them with all the other binaries there). From reading the installation documentation, MySQL recommends installing the binaries in a directory (mysql) underneath /usr/local. I (personally) don't think it matters whether it's located under usr/bin or usr/local, but it does make sense to segregate them for ease of update. As a result, I see 2 possibilities (1) Delete all the mysql binaries from /usr/bin, proceed with the update as indicated in the MySQL release notes. (2) Use Yast2 to uninstall MySQL, then proceed with the installation as indicated in the MySQL documenation (databases are backed up already!) I'm probably missing something (I usually do). Some of you have probably already done this upgrade. What's the best way? tia - ---Michael -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2-rc1-SuSE (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE+zi9AjeziQOokQnARAtEGAKClbm46H8lSiRFqwUPTd4x65fglNQCgimF+ tWnUoMD3qE9OppZlWCaTBqM= =8G53 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
