Using SuSE V8.0 I have had general success with using apt-get for upgrades etc. Last night I went to upgrade again and there were some 19 or so KDE related packages as well as a few other patches, so I opened my Shell console ran apt-get update, loaded Synaptic and went through what was available. I then proceeded with the upgrade process and find that I get an error message: Sub-process bin/rpm received a segmentation fault ! I did some googling and saw mention of a memory problem, so I rebooted my system and went to run Memtest, my system has 512Mb ram and the boot process memcheck runs OK and all memory is identified. When I started memtest I got a blackscreen and the only visible word was "Go", so no memtest. In any case I do not appear to have any other problem with mys system apart from the segmentation fault. Could some experienced guru pass some kindly advice my way as to how to rectify this problem with apt-get and the upgrade. I have already updated another PC without problem via apt-get, but that is a slightly different configuration.
