I too use NFS but I strongly reccomend you NOT share / with the flags no_root_squash !!! Here's why If external connection can be established then the entire filesystem is accessible with FULL permissions! Here's a suggestion Share /home dir to only internal ( 192.168.0.*) with (rw,root_squash, sync) Share /data dir to only internal ( 192.168.0.*) with (rw,root_squash, sync) If ya MUST have root access to files setup a seperate address / permission bound to a internal PC. IE /data 192.168.0.13 (rw,no_root_squash, sync) CHeck your hosts.allow and hosts.deny for the portmap entries... hosts.allow portmap : 192.168.0. : ALLOW hosts.deny portmap : ALL EXCEPT 192.168.0. : DENY Not to preach, just trying to prevent problems later... I recently upgraded to SuSE 8.2 Pro, I was previously using 8.1 Personal. I have a /data partition that I am trying to share via nfs. Currently I am sharing root to my network. The root drive is completely accessible as is everything but the /data partition.
Here is the syntax from my exports file on my "host" computer. / *(rw,no_root_squash)
Here is the syntax from my "client" computer's fstab file. jared:/ /net/jared nfs defaults 0 0
Any ideas on what could cause this?
each partition needs to be exported separately, so e.g.
/ on hda1 and /data on hda2, then exporting / will not export /data. You need to export /data as well and mount it separately on the client. Unless it's necessary, I wouldn't export / at all, especially with not to the world with no_root_squash!
