1) How long is it until a new SuSE-kernel comes out?
Check the people/mantel directory on the ftp site. You could try one of these, and I would recommend checking the changelog to see what is in that particular kernel.
What should I do to get the patches into it that's needed (they are trivial).
You could edit the sources, make the changes, and recompile.
2) Should I expect help from SuSE on this (i.e. getting in a few patches in their kernel).
Recompiling a kernel is not included in the installation support AFAIK. You shouldn't need to recompile to get it working unless there is some really weird hardware.
3) What is needed to get the latest 2.4.21rc to work with SuSE?
Don't know.
I boot with lilo and get problems with kernel-panics for not beeing able to mount root.
What filesystem did you use for root?
The kernel compiles though. I guess I'm missing some features here. I've tried mk_initrd -i <imagename> -k <kernelname> but that doesn't seem to be enough.
did you give it any modules to load into the initrd, i.e. -m "jbd ext3" -- Joe Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: http://www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871 God said, I AM that I AM. I say, by the grace of God, I am what I am.
