Has anyone reading this note installed a Zip drive in a computer on which SuSE 8.n or similarly aged Linux was already installed? What sort? Will YAST spot it and install it, or must I recompile the kernel and install by hand?
I had one in 8.0 but haven't reinstalled it. If it's a parallel port Zip drive you may have to use (as root) # modprobe imm to be able to use it at all. If that works, the drive should be available on /dev/sda1. Try # mount /dev/sda1 /mnt to mount it. I think the process is easier if you have a USB zip drive. There are probably some instructions on http://www.tldp.org/ I created /media/zip as a directory and put the following line in /etc/fstab /dev/sda1 /media/zip auto rw,noauto, user, exec 0 2 In the end I gave up using it because rsync over an isdn line is more reliable, and faster except for very large files. -- JDL Non enim propter gloriam, diuicias aut honores pugnamus set propter libertatem solummodo quam Nemo bonus nisi simul cum vita amittit.
