Hello friends i need your opinion to subscribe to one of these two magazines about computing: pc world or pc magazine. which one do you prefer? why? thanks for any help
It depends entirely on your reason for getting a magazine. I personally dislike both. They seems to be "pick of the month" magazines. Thus I feel they will present articles based on potential popularity (to ensure readership) rather than chosing articles that will truly server business or individual needs. This is reflected in the years of 'pro-Microsoft, anti-anything-else' style they had maintained. I subscribed to both when they first hit the shelves. For many years, my only reason for subscribing was to make sure I know what my customers were being told so that I could properly counter the possible dis-information. (And I have seen a lot of dis-information over the years.) That said, both have moderately useful PC, especially WIndows (is there an alternative?), tips and troubleshooting techniques. I've always felt the in depth discussions on techniques to be particularily enlightening (examples: keyboard shortcuts; 'a 7th different way of doing the same thing'; and how to mess with your MS Windows registry) - certainly describes the capability of the target audience! If I had to chose only one - PC World because it seems to have a bit less emphasis on the glossy advertising. Perhaps the way of chosing is as follows: buy one copy of each, cut out the pages that contain actual articles and weigh the rest. Chose the lighter one because it is more environmentally friendly.
