Rich, You can use OpenOffice or StarOffice as a substitution to M$ query analyzer. In this case you'll connect OO/SO to MSSQL through ODBC driver. Your "stupid" users will have that nitty gritty graphical interfaces like Data Manager and ODBC Configuration to connect to DB server. This is what our engineers used before they learned Perl and MySQL. Regards. Alex -------------------
Thanks, that would be fine for me and few other's but what I need is
a query
tool that stupid users can use like they have in MS Sqlserver (query analyzer), type in your select statement and press run, get a window back with the results.
Thanks
Rich

Hello, You can use Perl with DBI module. MSSQL DB can be accessed using Sybase DBI driver. In this case access to your DB would look like:
$dbh = DBI->connect(dbi:sybase:dbhost:dbname, user_name, password) || die "Can't connect: $DBI::errstr\n";
$sql="SELECT my_column from some_table"; $sth = $dbh->prepare($sql) || die "Can't execute: $DBI::errstr\n"; $sth->execute || die "Can't execute: $DBI::errstr\n"; while ($hash_ref=$sth->fetchrow_hashref) {
push @my_array, $hash_ref->{my_column}
}
$sth->finish; $dbh->disconnect;

Hi
I have a problem that I hope someone here has overcome, we have
some
corporate databases still on MS Windows 2000 server and running SQLserver 2000, I am hoping that someone has found a query tool that will allow LINUX users to access(query) the databases. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks Much
Rich
