I looked in /usr/src for a linux directory and the SuSE link to linux, but they do not exist. I tried re-installing the kernel sources via YAST2 (checking the Source box for the Athlon kernel), but even though it looks like it copied something, the sources are not there.
What am I doing wrong?

I just installed the default kernel sources by mounting the cd-rom, cd'ing into the correct directory and doing a rpm -ivh kernel*. I have not yet tried to use them, but a 200+ Meg directory system was created: /usr/src/linux-2.4.20.SuSE (i.e. your looking in the right place.) I've never done it from yast2. Hope that helps.
