Hello,
I am looking to purchase a new modem for a system I am putting together and was wondering if anyone has tried using a U.S. Robotics 56K* v.92 Performance Pro with SuSE v8.0 Pro. Are there any known issues with this modem and Linux? I have tried querying the SuSE Hardware Database but could not find anything regarding this particular modem in it.
Any information would be most helpful.
Thanks!
Jesse
Oh yeah, it'll work right out of the box, but the problem *I* had with them (yes 'them') is, the first one I got, lasted about 3 months. Then all of a sudden one day, it won't do anything but turn on, system couldn't get a signal from it or anything. Okay, so I bought *another* one (another $100 too!)...this one lasted almost 6 months and did the *same exact thing*! So now I have two expensive paperweights sitting here (by the way, I'm using the same serial cord on this Zoom as I used on the first and second USR modems, so it isn't the cord that's the problem). Had to get on the internet though, so bought a Zoom V.92/V.90 Faxmodem (serial) Series 0269, and it's lasted a year and a half so far, plus I found it on Pricewatch.com, so saved about $30 IIRR difference from a USR modem.
