I have a requirement to setup linux DNS subdomain like test.xyz.com where xyz.com is running on windows 2000. Pl advise if any one has setup such configuration of DNS.
From Suse's point of view this is vanilla Bind 9 stuff. Doesn't matter that the delegation is coming off a windows box. Just set up the named.conf and zone files, run named-checkconfig and named-checkzone test.xyz.com test.xyz.com. The first test.xyz.com is the zone to be tested the second is the name of the file you keep it in. If they pass, start (or reload) your named and do some test "dig"s. Then get your zone delegated. A book I'd really recomend for this is the "DNS and BIND Cookbook" by Cricket Liu, publisher O'Reilly. It gives best-practice recipees that are easy to follow, for all stages of setting up Bind. Actually more useful than the O'Reilly DNS bible. michaelj -- Michael James michael.james@csiro.au System Administrator voice: 02 6246 5040 CSIRO Bioinformatics Facility fax: 02 6246 5166
