I agree. $'s drive everything in most companies. My company has downsized over the last year / 18 months and we're spending $0 on new technology so it is really hard to justify switching platforms. However, when the company turns around we will need to update a lot of 2/3 year old technology and that is the time to have the argument ready. Now I am spending my available time working on getting my argument / architecture proposal ready so when the door opens I'm in like Flynn. I would like to know how to change corporate policies so that the corporation(s) would look at open source software/Linux first for their IT operations. I vote by proxy.
Just my 2 cents: Corporations listen to arguments about MONEY. Few care about PHILOSOPHY. That said, one needs to present an argument that shows that Linux is cheaper to install, maintain, upgrade, is more reliable and secure and provides more capability for the same cost as the evil alternative. The argument cannot start with "the evil OS must die", the argument must start with "I will save you money". -- Tony Alfrey tonyalfrey@earthlink.net "I'd Rather Be Sailing" -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com
