Hey folks. Under 8.1 it had difficulties with my burner /dev/sr0 I was able to get K3b running well by installing from source. I did the same thing with my new install of 8.2 It still only seems to work as root??
So I was curious if k3b is considered the best linux burning prog? I figured it was, as Suse seems to push it as the default.
What program do ya'll use? Are there good alternatives that may give me less headaches?
The best burner by far is cdbakeoven -- it really has a great user interface. But you are going to have to "compromise" your security no matter what. Just add yourself to the disk group, and change the permissions and ownership of cdrecord and most every burner program that relies on cdrecord for the low level dirty work will work: markgray@mmx:~> l /usr/bin/cdrecord -rws--x--- 1 root disk 281324 2002-09-09 15:28 /usr/bin/cdrecord Note that you have to log out and log back in before the group change can take effect. If you are using either the /etc/permissions.paranoid or /etc/permissions.secure security setting you will have to change the entry for cdrecord in these files also -- otherwise SuSEconfig will change the permissions back again every time it is run. See man chown, man chmod.
