I was wrong. The upgrade at home was just as boring (almost) as the one at work. On a VERY different machine. It upgraded over 900 packages and so far, no problems. Of course I did it very late last night so I haven't had time to check out very much. The only hiccup was that after the upgrade I no longer had 3D working (NVIDIA card). I steeled myself for a long battle. With some trepidation I let YAST2 download the NVIDIA patch, and then ran SAX2. Re-started X and gears shows me ~3000 FPS. Made a quick test run with Tuxracer & it was working great! I know this doesn't help all those who are experiencing upgrade problems (been there, done that), and is not intended to be "showing off". I was thinking though, that I have done very little tweaking to either of the boxes since I installed 8.1. In general, all I have done was run YOU periodically (and/or fou4s), and perhaps installed the odd app or two. Perhaps this makes for a much smoother upgrade than those who may have done a lot of tweaking to their boxes....?? Just a thought - which may have no basis in fact. Cheers to SuSE! Windows is like that. -----Original Message----- From: Cleary_Mike@emc.com [mailto:Cleary_Mike@emc.com] Sent: Wednesday, April 23, 2003 3:19 PM To: suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: [SLE] 8.2 upgrade report Upgraded my 8.1 box at work today with 8.2 (Pro). It was dead boring. (not a criticism!) I chose some extra packages to install just so I had something to do. :) I booted from the DVD, made a few choices, then went back to work. 30 - 40 minutes later it was prompting me to log in. (It upgraded about 820 packages) That's it. Fantastic job SuSE! I hope my upgrade at home goes as smoothly (although it probably won't just because I have an nvidia video card...:) Mike ------------------------------- Cleary_Mike@emc.com ------------------------------- A wink is as good as a nod to a blind horse. -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com
