Hi I have a suse box 8.1 I upgraded my xfree86 to 4.3. I downloaded the sources from the xfree86 web page.
I compiled installed, everything went right, except that when I boot the computer the x server doesn't start I have to started manually by typing startx.
When I enter in Yast in the run level editor and try to start xdm I have the following response:
/etc/init.d/xdm start returned 1 (Unspecified error.) Starting service kdm/opt/kde3/bin/kdm: relocation error: /opt/kde3/bin/kdm: undefined symbol: _XdmcpWrapperToOddParity ..failed
How should I correct this problem?
From looking at the patches in SuSE's version of X 4.3, it looks like the version you get from XFree86.org isn't complete. There's some licensing required, apparently, in the xdmcp wrapper thing. So you need to locate the patches from somewhere, apply them, and recompile at least the xdm parts of X11 Or you could get SuSE's precompiled, prepatched version Or you could recompile kdm against your version of X, I guess there's something in the way of security you lose there, in that case
