Yeap....as it seems this is a local problem here. But which component produces the error? I wonder if anyone had similar conflict ( IO assignements) before... Anyway. Now that I have finally put it to work, I regard it a holy artifact and don't touch it anymore. Robert Schwedler wrote:
I have a Netgear FA311 card that installed nicely on 8.2. It has done so since 7.3. I agree maybe its something with your configuration?

Hi. I installed recently Suse8.2 professional and I noticed that my network card was not working at all. Finally I found why and the reason for this message is to inform users on how to solve a similar case. The card is an Ethernet 10/100 Mbit - Netgear FA311 wtih a National Semiconductor DP83815 chip. SuSE uses the natsemi.o module , which as I read on the Netgeat website is the correct driver to use. In addition the network in wich I am connected is using the DHCP protokoll to assign host names and so on. During the boot phase the initialization failed to assign IP address to my machine. No network. Hm.
I had installed the source code for the natsemi module that came with Suse and compared it with the same module source code from the manufacturer that supplies the chip to National Semiconductor.

they were different. So I followed the instruction on how to compile the module, and tested it on my machine. It works.
It could be the fault of my card, or an other device that causes conflict. So maybe no other user has problem with that. Maybe. But since the source code is available for free, it would not be a bad idea to include it in a next distribution.
By the way, tha same problem happened with RedHat 8.0 four months ago. They certainly used the same driver as SuSE....
That was my first message to the list. Hope it helps....
Thanks. I have installed 8.2 on 4 machines with Netgear 311's have had no problems..... Might be something in your configuration.
