Okay, I tried your suggestion and the problem changed. It now says "Your computer could not be joined to the domain because the following error occurred: The network path was not found."
Any other suggestions?
Is it listed in /etc/samba/lmhosts? If not, add it.
It's there. I keep getting the same error though.
Are you running a local DNS for your network? If not, add it to /etc/hosts.
I'm not running local dns. All hosts are added to /etc/hosts and each hosts & hosts.sam file on each machine. Now I checked the samba logs and I'm seeing repeating messages like this:
lib/access.c:check_access(325) denied connection from (192.168.11.2)
this refers to the ip of one of my xp boxes. Any clue on this error? I've got hosts.allow = 192.168.11 - I had: hosts deny = ALL except 127.0.0.1, but I deleted that to eliminate it as the culprit
Is XP running a firewall on its NIC?
Yes, it's running zone alarm.
