Hi,
I received a new Compaq Evo N1020v laptop from work before easter. It has Windows XP pre-installed on it. Does anyone know if it is possible to make a partition for SuSE 8.1 and install it for dual-booting with Windows XP without re-installing XP?

I don't think there are any free NTFS partition management tools apart from commercial ones, which can be expensive. The other tools are Linux based which is not much good. Should you already have a partition tool then use that. Failing that, the following procedure might be of assistance. Delete all the partitions on the laptop. Using free partition managers like Ranish, divide the drive into two patitions. The Compaq probable comes with a recovery CD rather than Windows XP install disk. Boot with the recovery CD which should put XP on the C: drive. Reinstall any other software. When booted with SuSE disk, it should find the empty partition and install itself there. However, if the PC has specifically been setup by your office's IT department, this might not be possible. LW999
