Interesting, very interesting. As soon as I turned off acpi at boottime, my problem was gone... I've put it in lilo.conf now, and it seems these problems are over (for now...).

As mentioned in previous posts, all my hardware problems were solved by turning acpi off. The usb2 drive, firewire drive and the on-board network card were not recognised. Fitting a card in the pci slot and disabling the on-board nic was of no help. Turning off acpi, all the above hardware is recognised. Now experimenting with routing as two nic cards are working. :):) LW999
