What's the best way to enable spell-checking for Evolution 1.2.2? I'm using the one that came with 8.2 and it's not there (gnome-spell) by default and I wasn't able to find it on the discs.
Also, has anybody tried installed Evo 1.2.4 RPM's (and supporting RPM's) that Ximian has provided for 8.1? Does it break anything?
Are you updating your Evo with Red Carpet? I found that the easiest way to do it. I used it and updated Evo to 1.2.4 under SuSE 8.1 (running in KDE but with all the Gnome libraries, etc. installed, too). All the stuff you need to do spell-checking is there, too. Here's the information about how to enable spell-checking from the Ximian support knowledge base: "The Evolution mail composer uses the gnome-spell tool to highlight misspelled words on the fly as you type them, and give you suggestions for possible corrections. To turn on spell checking you need to verify that the required software is installed then configure Evolution. Required software: aspell pspell gnome-spell aspell dictionary The aspell dictionaries are names aspell-lang_code, where lang_code is the two letter code for the language with an optional two letter country code. American English is included in some packages of aspell. You might need to install the separate package en. To use a dialect, such as en_GB (British English), you must install both the base dictionary en and the dialect dictionary en_GB. If you are missing any of these packages, please use Red Carpet or your preferred method to install them. Once you have verified that you have the required software installed, you need to configure Evolution to perform spell checking. First you need to select a language*. Click on Tools- >Settings->Composer Preferences->Spell Checking. Select the language that you would like the use and click on Enable. If you want to use multiple languages, repeat this for each language. Lastly, check the Check spelling while I type option. When you are composing a message you will see red lines under words that are misspelled. You can right click on the word and then ask for suggested spellings." *note from me - I needed to change the language selection in Evo from "default" to the one I use "English - American".
