I've been playing with VNC on an 8.1 box with KDE as the WM. I have a Windows box running the server and use vncviewer to see the Windows desktop. Works great, except for one point.
The Windows machine uses the same size screen as the Linux machine, so I need fullscreen mode. This works, but when I then hit F8 to try to get back to the Linux screen, the keypress is ignored. That is, the vncviewer doesn't pop up the menu with the "turn off fullscreen option". The only way out is to disconnect all clients from the VNC Windows server.
When I get back to Linux, I see in the terminal a bunch of ^[[19~ codes, meaning the F8 was being sent to the terminal, and wasn't being caught by the vncviewer.
Are other keyboard keys sent to the windows session as they should? I've seen it happen in certain fullscreen games, and it's usually because I've managed to hit alt-tab to change the input focus without sending the new window to front. Just a thought. And while I'm thinking, here's another thought: have you tried the KDE vnc client? The one called Remote Desktop connection in kde 3.1. It's a lot better then the standard vncviewer. Plus you get a nice "exit from fullscreen" button you can click, while all keypresses go to the remote session (including ctrl-alt-del :) Cheers Anders
